H.O.P.E. Academy is a not-for-profit organization, derived from the H.O.P.E. Training Program, that strives to evoke the development of basketball fundamental skills, character development, nutrition and life skills within the players that attend the program(s).
H.O.P.E. Academy provides 6 – week sessions in which we provide classroom instruction to develop basketball intelligence (IQ), nutrition and communication skill. In addition, we provide controlled scrimmages for game scenario instruction, drills for skill development and training, and instructed game play.
The Rochester, NY area over the years has produced many talented basketball players that have fallen short of their promise due to the lack of fundamental basketball skills, poor character development, low basketball IQ, and a lack of understanding of how to play system basketball.
Here at H.O.P.E. Academy the goal is to develop the CORE 4: Basketball IQ, Character, Nutrition and Understanding the “System,” we believe that these four elements are critical to the continued development of today’s players. The objective of these sessions are to:
SKILLS & DRILLS consists of developing each player’s fundamental basketball skill set through a variety of repetitive simple to complex drills, agility training, sprinting and game play in efforts to develop intermediate and advanced skill sets.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT consists of educating the athletes of 10 CORE characteristics that H.O.P.E. Academy believes are essential to the development of the player and the person; all of which are transferable into to “real life.”
NUTRITION consists of education about fueling the body with the proper nutrients, as it is critical to the lifelong health of the athlete. H.O.P.E. Academy will show the players what a healthy diet looks like and provide some suggestions for easy to prepare and healthy snacks.
INTEVIEWING TECHNIQUES consists of a 5 technique approach to successful and articulate sports interviews. Players will learn and practice the techniques in preparation for future interviews.
BASKETBALL IQ: UNDERSTANDING THE “SYSTEM” consists of educating the players by improving their decision-making skills by knowing “when” to use which play, move or skill during a game. As time allows, we will explore video the elements of collegiate and professional offensive and defensive systems and then apply their acquired knowledge in a controlled scrimmage setting.
